Dr Adam Mechler, PhD
Dr Mechler completed a BSc/MSc degree in chemistry and physics in 1996, and
obtained his PhD in physics/materials science in 2001 at University of Szeged (formerly Attila Jozsef
university), Hungary. He received a NATO Science for Peace Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship to work at
the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he spent three years while his interest shifted to
bioinspired materials and biomolecule interactions. After arriving in Australia in 2004 as the recipient
of a Monash Fellowship awarded by Monash University, he established his independent research program on
biomolecule self-assembly, focusing on membrane biophysics and peptide-membrane interactions, while
maintaining an interest in bioinspired materials and bioactive natural products. He has joined La Trobe
University staff in 2009 and has been working there since.
Mr Max Huni
Max has over 30 years’ experience in all aspects of wastewater treatment, purification, component valorisation as well as recycling and safe disposal.Max has worked with Allwaste and was technical manager at Argus Recycling for more than ten years. During this period he designed, constructed and implemented a new system for waste separation which is still used today at Argus in Dandenong Victoria. Through extensive R&D he has pioneered new engineering solutions for the cost-effective separation of food waste and industrial waste. In 2016 Max constructed a demonstration plant employing his new tank-based water separation technology at Gippsland Water’s Dutson Downs soil and organic recycling facility. Max consults widely with the wastewater and waste oil industries and more recently has developed new, economical solutions for distilleries such as Shene Distillery in Pontville Tasmania.
